I'm looking to fish with a jigging rap for perch on lake Ontario this weekend. . .?
I usually fish a haley w/ spikes to locate, and move to either a to a haley with a bigger hook, or a dual rig, simular to a crappie rig, a 3/4 oz weight on botton, with 2 hooks comming off the mainline, about 3 inches of floro. and a small hook baited with a fathead, but i want to give a jigging rapala a go, i fish an area with a decent walleye population, so i want to throw that into the mix or possibilites, but dont know how to bait it, a fathead(perch minnow) on the front hook, or back, or whole minnow on bottom treble?
I fish many northern adirondack lakes and we haven't bought bait in years. Experiment with small jigs ranging from 1/32 to 1/16 ounce sizes. Rig up with lighter line than usual 2-4 pound test max. Keep your jigs moving very slowly but consistently. I've had good luck with black on black - small black jig head with a black plastic grub. Sounds simple but it works.
