It was the best planned turd

The rarely used gas-station toilet
The back of beyond
In the heart of Death Valley
I’d made sure the ball-cock was tied up
Ensured my dry bowl.
And with the heat and the flies
My scheme was soon unsheathed.
Two days before
I’d taken Poe’s Raven
Folded and folded and wrapped in cling film
And now the desert’s emissaries did their worst.
Raoul had struggled with the stench
But the tripod was set, the exposure and speed
Perfect.
Did I care by who or how it would be viewed?
Damn right.
Some would see the art
The cycle
The resurrection.
Others would not get past the title.
